China’s foremost Latin Americanist historian is hosted by CLAS in Mexico

On the heels of the First Meeting of Foreign Ministers of China, Latin America and the Caribbean (Beijing January 8-9, 2015) this year’s speaker for the joint UB-UADY Latin American and Caribbean Studies Conference held at the Autonomous University in Merida, Mexico was professor Dong Jinsheng. He is the Director of the Center for Latin American Studies at the prestigious Peking University. As such he is also China’s foremost Latin Americanist historian. His lecture, entitled “The Evolution of Relations Between China and Latin America” was a fascinating compendium of Sino-Latin American & Caribbean relations from 1421 to the present. He was introduced by UB PhD student Steven Muñoz.

Following the lecture CLAS hosted a banquet in Prof. Dong’s honor. Prominent UADY scholars and officials were in attendance together with all of the CLAS and UB students who are spending the semester with our program in Mexico.
