Fifth and last volume of “Historia de las Antillas” is launched in Madrid

The fifth and last volume of Historia comparada de las Antillas (Comparative History of the Antilles), a collection assembled under the direction of Consuelo Naranjo Orovio, senior researcher at the Institute of History of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) has been launched in Madrid. This volume on comparative history follows previous ones on the history of Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and the Non-Hispanic Antilles.

Together these works offer a global vision that is specific and comparative, spanning the history of the peoples of the Antilles from the Christian invasion to the present. Never before has there been such an ambitious project covering the history of the Caribbean Islands and bringing together such a varied group of experts, including our very own Professor Buscaglia. The five year project (2009-2014) was made possible thanks to the contributions of Ediciones Doce Calles, the Fernand Braudel Center for the Study of Economies, Historical System, and Civilitations at Binghamton University, the Program in Caribbean and Latin/o American Studies of the University at Buffalo, la Oficina del Historiador de Puerto Rico, la Fundación Instituto de Historia Social, la Editorial CSIC, la Academia Dominicana de la Historia, Centro de Investigaciones Históricas de la Universidad de Puerto Rico y la Fundación Vueltabajo.
