A Multi-Sited Pre-Professional Program in Advanced Studies and Research
Semester 1: Take four advanced seminars in a variety of disciplines and critical practices at UB. These include two mandatory seminars: Caribbean & Latin/o American History, Caribbean & Latin/o American Thought; and two electives.
Semester 2: Sign up for four advanced seminars in a variety of disciplines and critical practices at the School of Anthropological Sciences in the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán, in Merida, Mexico. These include two mandatory classes: Caribbean & Latin/o American Politics, Caribbean & Latin/o American Literature; and two electives. The semester includes a series of study tours in the Yucatan Peninsula.
Semester 3: This unrivaled experience is centered around the Archival Research Project, an intensive hands-on course that turns you into research fellows in the National Historical Archive in Madrid and the General Archive of the Indies in Seville, Spain. The semester begins in Madrid with a specially designed Spanish American History Seminar taught by Europe’s most renowned scholars in the fields of Caribbean, Latin American and Atlantic History. You also take a course on Scholarly and Professional Writing and one on Contemporary Spanish Politics. The semester includes a series of study tours in the Iberian Peninsula.
Semester 4: Return to Buffalo to complete a Masters thesis or project on the topic of your choosing and under the direct and supervision of your faculty advisor.
